Jude writes to those who are “called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus” (vs. 1) to “contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints” (vs. 3). In letting their doctrinal guard down, itinerant false teachers have crept in among them perverting the message of grace into a means of sensuality and greed. Just as God’s justice came upon false teachers in the Old Testament, his justice will likewise come upon false teachers in the church today. Believers must contend by building themselves up in their faith, keeping themselves in God’s love, and extending mercy toward those drifting from the faith, knowing that the God of all glory will preserve his own to the end.
