This Week’s Gathering: The Hope of Sabbath

Throughout the human story, God has given us a beautiful picture of Rest in Him. That picture is illustrated in the Sabbath, which calls God’s people to cease from typical daily work and enjoy an intentional time of rest. This weekend we press into this gift called Sabbath and the invitation God gives us to be present with Him.

This week's gathering is ASL and Spanish translated.

Follow the Leader

When I Follow Jesus

Following the leader is definitely something preschoolers love and understand. What we hope to help them learn is that throughout life there will be countless choices of leaders they can follow. We want them to know who the best leader is to follow.

So, what happens when we follow Jesus? Well, when we follow Jesus, we learn how to love people the way Jesus loves people. That means during this week, we will learn that we can love everyone and what that love looks like for preschoolers.

Our prayer is that by the end of this month when we ask our preschoolers who they can follow they will answer, “I can follow Jesus.” Why? Because Jesus loves us and He will always lead us in the very best way.

Don’t Miss Out

This month we’re exploring the connection between forgiveness and God’s character, illustrated in God’s Big Story. Forgiveness is deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.

This week we take a look at Luke 15:21-32, picking up the story of the Lost Son from where we left off last week. His father and older brother each responded to the Prodigal Son differently. The Father welcomed him home with open arms and threw a giant party for him. The Older Brother chose not to forgive and become angry with his brother. He not only missed out on a party, but also missed out on rebuilding a relationship with his brother.

Bottom Line: When you don’t forgive, you miss out. When we choose not to forgive others, we could miss out on rebuilding a broken relationship. We might miss out on friendships or new, fun memories with our family, or peace in our own hearts. We could also miss out on the joy that God can give us when we choose to show forgiveness.

Key Question: What do you lose if you don’t forgive? Kids don’t always understand the consequences of not forgiving others. It’s one thing to tell preteens something, but it’s better if they wrestle with questions and discover an answer on their own. We pray they start to realize how important it is to offer forgiveness and rebuild the broken relationship.

Let Us Abide

In this time while we’re not able to be physically together, we’ll be sharing encouragements, prayers, short teachings, and devotionals throughout every week on on Instagram and Facebook as well as on our website.

We know that all of us are experiencing quite a shift from our regular weekly rhythms, but the rhythm of abiding in Jesus—following His way, truth, and life—remains. And in doing so, we find He is our anchor in all times, always drawing us in closer towards Him and others.

Let’s not stop fearlessly pressing into abiding in Him individually and as a community in every moment. He pulls great purpose and beauty out of all seasons, leading us in every step.
