This Week’s Gathering: Flourish | The Church: Biblical Community

Our current reality clearly demonstrates our need for one another. God exists in communion as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and He crafted us after Himself with our created purpose being fulfilled among community as well. It is in leading life together that we as the Church can be ambassadors for Christ, displaying the wide range of His passion, glory, and gifts to a world in need of Him.

With Christ as the head, we—His body the Church—are made up of many parts; all invited and empowered to fulfill His mission. Jesus prayed that we may be one. Not only is this the way we spur one another on; it’s essential for our growth in Christ.

Lemonade Stand

We are using a lemonade stand theme this month to welcome in the warmer days and introduce preschoolers to the amazing truth that God loves them. We want preschoolers to know that God has put a lot of planning and creating and love into each one of them. And, just like you can’t separate the water from the sugar from the lemon juice once you mix them, NOTHING can separate us from God’s love.

So, think a lot of love and a little lemon—mix it all together, and we will get an entire month of God loves me!

GOD LOVES ME

Story Focus: God loves me no matter what. Week three, we will hear a story told by Jesus. In this story, a son leaves his father to go and do things his own way. The son makes a lot of wrong choices, but the father never stops loving him. In fact, when the son returns, instead of punishing his son, the father throws a huge party! That’s how much the father loved the son. Jesus wants us to know that God loves us even more than the father loved the son. God loves us no matter what!

Unstuck: Don't Give Up

This month we’re exploring the connection between determination and God’s character, as shown through God’s big story. Determination is deciding it’s worth it to finish what you started.

KEEP GOING

In Acts 3:1-4:2 we see that Jesus’ mission isn’t going to be that easy. Peter healed someone in the name of Jesus and caused quite a stir. Peter and John used this moment to share the message of Jesus. Soon though, the religious leaders arrested them and had them stand trial. Peter and John showed determination. They made it clear that no matter what happened to them, they would continue sharing Jesus with others.

Bottom Line: Keep going even when it gets tough. Even when we follow Jesus, we’re not promised an easy life. We are promised that God will be with us. Just because a situation we face is difficult, doesn’t mean it’s time to give up. We pray that kids will learn to lean into the power of God to find the determination they need to keep going.

KEEP GOING

Key Question: What keeps you from finishing what you start? Preteens don’t always understand why they want to quit. When you start to identify what keeps standing in your way, you can start to make a plan to overcome and finish. We pray that kids will start to see how they can trust God to give them the strength they need to keep going.

Let Us Abide

In this time while we’re not able to be physically together, we’ll be sharing encouragements, prayers, short teachings, and devotionals throughout every week on on Instagram and Facebook as well as on our website.

We know that all of us are experiencing quite a shift from our regular weekly rhythms, but the rhythm of abiding in Jesus—following His way, truth, and life—remains. And in doing so, we find He is our anchor in all times, always drawing us in closer towards Him and others.

Let’s not stop fearlessly pressing into abiding in Him individually and as a community in every moment. He pulls great purpose and beauty out of all seasons, leading us in every step.
