This Week’s Gathering: Palm Sunday

The people who had followed Jesus were rightly convinced that He was the Messiah, hoping he would rescue them from their Roman oppressors. When he entered into Jerusalem they celebrated with, "Hosanna! Hosanna!” declaring that Jesus would save them from their plight. Jesus did so much more than they even had space to imagine and today we celebrate that Jesus is indeed the Savior for all mankind.

This week's gathering is ASL and Spanish translated.

Bloom

Celebrate Jesus

In the spring, everywhere we look we see green starting to push through the soil and trees heavy with buds getting ready to bloom. Everything just feels so alive! It’s the perfect picture to help teach preschoolers that Jesus is alive!

We are sharing with preschoolers the life-changing truth that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever. We are planting seeds that we pray will grow and bloom into a faith that is as alive as Jesus, a love that will love like Jesus, a compassion that will care like Jesus, and a life that will give like Jesus.

Story Focus: We celebrate Jesus because He is special. We are going to celebrate Palm Sunday in a big way with our preschoolers and talk about how Jesus is special. So get those palm branches ready! Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay, Jesus!

Put Others First

This month we’re exploring the connection between humility and God’s character, as shown through God’s Big Story. Humility is putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.

We start off the month in Matthew 26:36-56. Jesus had been with His disciples at a special Passover meal where He demonstrated service and humility as He washed their feet. Afterwards, Jesus led them to the garden to watch and pray. Jesus gave us an important lesson in humility as He prays to His Father, “Not my will, but Your will.” Jesus was soon arrested and put on trial to humbly face the darkest moments of His life.

Bottom Line: Put others first. As we look at some of Jesus’ last interactions with His closest followers, we pray that kids will understand the importance of putting others first. This isn’t always our initial response, but when we choose to show humility and put others first, we get to point others to Jesus.

Key Question: How do you put others first? Learning to put others first is an important skill for preteens. For most preteens, it’s all about them most of the time. We hope that through this discussion, they discover simple ways to prioritize being humble and putting others first.

Let Us Abide

In this time while we’re not able to be physically together, we’ll be sharing encouragements, prayers, short teachings, and devotionals throughout every week on on Instagram and Facebook as well as on our website.

We know that all of us are experiencing quite a shift from our regular weekly rhythms, but the rhythm of abiding in Jesus—following His way, truth, and life—remains. And in doing so, we find He is our anchor in all times, always drawing us in closer towards Him and others.

Let’s not stop fearlessly pressing into abiding in Him individually and as a community in every moment. He pulls great purpose and beauty out of all seasons, leading us in every step.
