This Week’s Gathering: Isaiah 40

In times of trouble, we find ourselves returning to the well worn passages of scripture that have sustained God’s people for thousands of years. Isaiah 40 is one of those passages. Its words speak comfort when we need it most by reminding us to trust in the word of God and His incredible greatness. When everything around feels upside down, Isaiah 40 reminds us to trust in the Everlasting God.

This week's gathering is ASLSpanish translated.

Follow the Leader

Week 4 – I Can Follow Jesus

Following the leader is definitely something preschoolers love and understand. What we hope to help them learn is that throughout life there will be countless choices of leaders they can follow. We want them to know who the best leader is to follow.

This week we see that it wasn’t just Andrew, Peter, James, John, and Matthew that followed Jesus. He asked twelve men to follow Him… and they did! We know them as the Disciples. These twelve men followed Jesus everywhere. They watched, learned, and were changed. And, they went on to help others—lots of others—follow Jesus too. We can all follow Jesus.

Our prayer is that by the end of this month when we ask our preschoolers who they can follow they will answer, “I can follow Jesus.” Why? Because Jesus loves us and He will always lead us in the very best way.

Week 4 – The Parable of the Son

This month we’re exploring the connection between forgiveness and God’s character, illustrated in God’s Big Story. Forgiveness is deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.

This week we take a look at Luke 15:11-24, where Jesus shares a parable to help people understand God’s amazing grace and forgiveness. In the story, a son comes to his father and asks for his share of his inheritance. This breaks the father’s heart, but he goes ahead and gives the son what he wants. The son wastes every last penny and hits rock bottom. He decides to go home to his father and ask forgiveness. The father is waiting with arms open wide, ready to have his son home.

Bottom Line: Everyone needs to be forgiven. Everyone at some point will do something to hurt another person and we’ve all done something that goes against what God wants for us. We all need forgiveness. Thankfully, through Jesus, God offers forgiveness no matter what we’ve done.

Week 4 – The Parable of the Son

This month we’re exploring the connection between forgiveness and God’s character, illustrated in God’s Big Story. Forgiveness is deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.

Key Question: When has someone forgiven you? We hope this question starts a conversation that leads preteens to understand how much God has forgiven them. Often, we need to point out how others have forgiven us when we’ve messed up to see that God forgives us for so much more. God is a loving Father who will always be willing to forgive us no matter what.

In Luke 15:11-24, Jesus shares a parable to help people understand God’s amazing grace and forgiveness. A son comes to his father and asks for his share of his inheritance. This breaks the father’s heart, but he goes ahead and gives the son what he wants. The son wastes every last penny and hits rock bottom. He decides to go home to his father and ask forgiveness. Let Us Abide

In this time while we’re not able to be physically together, we’ll be sharing encouragements, prayers, short teachings, and devotionals throughout every week on on Instagram and Facebook as well as on our website.

We know that all of us are experiencing quite a shift from our regular weekly rhythms, but the rhythm of abiding in Jesus—following His way, truth, and life—remains. And in doing so, we find He is our anchor in all times, always drawing us in closer towards Him and others.

Let’s not stop fearlessly pressing into abiding in Him individually and as a community in every moment. He pulls great purpose and beauty out of all seasons, leading us in every step.
