This Week’s Gathering: Flourish | The Bible: God’s Story

The Bible is a collection of books written over a thousand years that tells the unified story of God’s creation and redemption of humanity.

Its pages are colored by beauty, brutality, power, and truth.

Throughout them we discover who God is; who we are as His creation; what our past, present, and future place is in the world; and, grandest of all, the truth and the way of Jesus—the One sent to rescue, revive, and lead us into a story worth living.

Whether our world seems utterly right or entirely backward to us at the time, this ancient, wild, everyday book points us towards the Anchor of everlasting life.

Find daily Flourish series devotionals and resources here.

This week's gathering is ASL and Spanish translated.

I CAN TELL OTHERS ABOUT JESUS

Story Focus: Jesus wants me to tell others He is alive. We end the month with Jesus giving all of His followers a special command. Go and tell. Go and tell everyone everywhere that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever. People who follow Jesus have been doing this ever since He came back. That’s why we know Jesus is alive, and it’s up to us to keep telling others so everyone everywhere knows that Jesus is alive!

Each time you see a flower bloom this spring, let it be a sweet reminder of the tremendous privilege we have to go and tell everyone that Jesus is alive.

GOD HAS A PLAN

In Luke 24:13-35, we find two followers of Jesus on their way to Emmaus. From what we read, it seems they were sad and confused by Jesus’ death on the cross. Little did they know that Jesus was walking with them. He explained how Jesus death was the answer to years of God’s promises to the Israelites. They were shocked when they realized that this person was Jesus. They ran back to Jerusalem to tell everyone about what they had just seen.

Bottom Line: There’s always more to discover about God’s plan. What we help kids understand about God is important. We get to lay a foundation of faith that will set them up to keep learning about God as they grow and mature in their faith. We pray that kids discover that, through Jesus, God has a unique plan for their life and as they follow Him, they’ll start to see where that plan will take them.

GOD HAS A PLAN

Key Question: What have you discovered about God that surprised you? God is so big. We’ll never understand everything there is to know about Him. Thankfully, though, along the journey of faith, God allows us to discover more about Him through things we learn and experience. We want our preteens to discover that even though they might not know everything there is to know about God, they should still keep asking questions and learning more about Him and the plan He has for their lives.

Let Us Abide

In this time while we’re not able to be physically together, we’ll be sharing encouragements, prayers, short teachings, and devotionals throughout every week on on Instagram and Facebook as well as on our website.

We know that all of us are experiencing quite a shift from our regular weekly rhythms, but the rhythm of abiding in Jesus—following His way, truth, and life—remains. And in doing so, we find He is our anchor in all times, always drawing us in closer towards Him and others.

Let’s not stop fearlessly pressing into abiding in Him individually and as a community in every moment. He pulls great purpose and beauty out of all seasons, leading us in every step.
